this is awesome! Obviously you put alot into this piece... though my only complaint is that being so good i wish you had given us a bit of discription into the time it took, the materials you used, or anything really
anyways this is great, the lines are smooth and crisp, and the texture on the page plays in to the distressed feeling, like you planed it, which maybe you did ....
Thank you! Funny thing-- I actually deleted the description on this literally the day before I got this comment (my original description was terrible and embarrassing and old). I can say, though, that this piece is super tiny (like 6x4 inches) and was done on cold-pressed paper w/ .005 & 01 sakura micron pens, watercolour, and white gel pen. I didn't plan the "distressed feeling" with the texture, I used this paper simple 'cuz it's thick and you can pile water onto it without damaging it, but I think it's cool that it's something that you noticed and think adds to the picture.
I took art in high school, but that's about it. Both my parents are artists, so that pro'lly helps a bit, but most of what I know is from observation and reading lots and lots of comics. Studying different comic styles is what got me to this place I am now.
That's interesting, I read many comics as well but it's somewhat hard for me to grasp certain styles, the way the body is supposed to move in motion and such. I guess everyone learns at their own pace :/
Hey, thanks. So... I was just sitting here when I got this comment...and I thought to myself...'Oh, that's nice. What a nice comment. BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ICON?' So, out of sheer curiosity, I visit your page, JenL, and discover awesome fanart of this thing called... 'Bravestarr'. I am intrigued by the designs and the fact that it is an 80's 'toon (which I love), so I went and watched the intro on The Youtube. So, tell me...is it humanly possible for a show to be as awesome as the intro for this series called 'Bravestarr' LOOKS? Because it looks pretty fuckin' bad-ass! And I just might have to hunt me down a bootleg...
Your response gave me a good chuckle. Yeah, Bravestarr is a pretty awesome cartoon. One of the best from the 1980s in my opinion. (It was made by Filmation, who also made He-Man and She-Ra.) With things like magic casting outlaws, robotic desperadoes, giant magic cyborg dinosaurs, alien cowboys, and a talking horse. It sounds crazy, but it's so creative and out there that it's tons of fun to watch. My favorite episodes are the ones with Tex Hex and his gang in them. Like "Tex's Terrible Night", "Eye of the Beholder", "Lost Mountain" and "Skuzz and Fuzz". The complete series DVD is super cheap at amazon, or you can watch almost all 65 episodes at YouTube.
what I love about this show is the fact that everything seems to just be delightfully random... but then as you watch it, and especially rewatch it, you find so many subtle things that add up/play important roles later and I just love that in a show like this, this show has a lot of depth to it and I am excited to see more revealed as the story unfolds....
And ho damn did they EVER add a lot of depth to Ice King's character, he went from annoying the crap out of me to being extremely interesting.
PS this piece once again reminds me at how much I suck at watercolor, lol
Oh, definitely. The subtlety of the story and the characters is one of the greatest qualities of the show. Though, I will admit, Ice King was always my favourite character, even since the first season and before we found out about "Simon". So this episode really just made me like him even more.
(No one sucks at watercolour...just gotta practise with it.)
I'm not so big fan of pink but I really enjoy how you used it. Hole pic have this dream feeling which is one of my favorite feeling And Ice King looks awesome with he's empty eyes and old forgotten memories. Marcy is super cute so extra points for that I have same feeling about Simon and I hope new AT season will give this info ! I would have never saw that episode at all with out dA because I notice whan pic with littly Marcy and Simon. I thought it was some kind of fan fic pic or something but then there was episodes name and everything. I didn't get this episode when I saw it first time because I thought there would be more flashback memories. I still liked song in that episode so I gave it second try. I had to re-play couple times before I started to like that episode I
I...dislike pink a lot, as well, actually. In the original, there's a much more -red- tint to everything, rather than pink. But, unfortunately, my scanner doesn't really pick up colours very well, let alone on this type of textured paper, SO. Cute Marcys and Simons are very important, I think. xD OH GOD, same with me. I was so far behind with the series, then everyone kinda exploded about that episode on Tumblr, when it first aired, so I felt compelled to watch it because of all the emotional fanart it was creating. I hope they come out with an almost purely flashback-oriented 'sode for those two...
Pink is funny color and these days I don't get it anymore. It's "girl" color and it's all over the place and most of the times in wrong places. I think they are really important 8D Those makes everything must interesting.....somehow ö3ö I hope so too. I really hope so...at least 5 season promo showed something like flashback 8D
Dude, if I had used nibs on this, I think I would have shot myself before I finished. xD Naw...I cheated and just used the .005, .01, and .02 Sakura Micron pens. Which are really frickin' nice. I should use my nib pens more often, though...they're kind of neglected.
